This is my September movie list, and wow it looks like the 80's truly will always dominate that autumn/fall feeling whether its cozy or suspenseful. I’ve seen all of these movies but some haven’t been for a while, so I’ll be going through the whole list and giving my updates on each AND why I consider it for September! I’ll also write where all of them are available to watch.
SEPTEMBER MOVIE UPDATES (out of order) :
Camelot (1967) 2:59:00
Found on: Tubi and Amazon Prime
Starting with Camelot tonight, my boyfriend hates it to death, but it is such a fun movie to watch. It's such a strong example of a very good translation of a theatrical drama into film. Costumes, sets, music and dialogue are intense and sometimes make you cringe, amazing! Why does this movie make the September list? Before rewatching it, I've always associated this movie and it's music, as well as overall visual composition, with the feeling of early autumn. It is warm in color and the feeling that we get from the music that revolves around the relationships throughout the movie, this reflects some essence of fall/autumn to me. It also has a certain coldness from some of the doom and problems man faces, there is also a beautiful sense of mystery that Merlin and Guinnivere bring to the air that reminds me of that snappy little bit of cold we get in September.
Watching part of it tonight, the other part tomorrow!!
After watching the full movie I can full heartedly agree with myself and say it has a very specific vibe that it brings to the table for me. It satisfies a major vice of enjoying cliche tropes because the actual story IS such a classic and original trope.
I forgot how just how much I loved the song between Guinnivere and Lancelot, while it's an affair and they are cheating, the montage of her beauty through his eyes and perspective is soooo enchanting. I think strings play a huge huge part in creating this feeling.
This movie is SOOO dramatic and while I obviously stated that at the beginning, it is truly more than what I am able to describe. So many moments where a character just makes a weird uncomfortable pose and sighs, or they're lying down together, holding each other tight and it's just not what people actually do with the actors obviously flexing their neck or core hard as fuck. Love to see it.
At the end, when Arthur decides to let go of everything, it is a very interesting thing to think about, especially with the way it is pulled off. He must let go of his best friend(s): Guinnivere and Lancelot, his lover(s): Guinnivere and Camelot.
There is a moment where he outright has to admit to the fact that he's kind of fucked because despite being betrayed, he can't betray the relationships initially because he is such a 'righteous man'
Overall, I still love it and recommend it if you can handle loonngg musicals
When Harry Met Sally (1989) 1:36:00
Found on: Amazon Prime :(
This movie is entertaining to say the least. If you haven't seen it just prepare for a a long slow burn! I think this movie is a good example of the different kinds of relationships we form and lose over the course of our lives, but more importantly within another era of time where expectations of relationships were much different. I appreciate it's perspective and find it one of my favorite love stories even though the acting is okay and there's some things that still don't stand today. I hope you enjoy!
